7-day family trip to Istanbul

7 days unlocks Cappadocia or a deeper Istanbul with suburbs and the Chora.

Day-by-day

  • Days 1–5: As the 5-day plan
  • Day 6: Fly to Cappadocia for 1 night (hot-air balloons at dawn, cave hotels — the single best Türkiye add-on; or skip and use the day in Istanbul)
  • Day 7: Chora Church mosaics morning (quiet, extraordinary), Rahmi Koç transport museum afternoon (kid-magnet)

Where to stay for a 7-day trip

A longer trip rewards a quieter, more residential base. You will not be rushing out the door every morning.

📍 Sultanahmet

Walkable to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi, Basilica Cistern. Tourist but unmatched for the big sights with kids.

📍 Beyoğlu / Galata

Livelier, cafes, Galata Tower, close to the ferry terminals. 15 min tram to Sultanahmet. More authentic feel.

📍 Kadıköy (Asian side)

Local, residential, excellent food street, ferry across to the European side every 15 min. A quieter base with teens.

Budget for 7 days — family of 4

Comfort tier estimate

€2,500+ for 3 nights (4-star hotel with Bosphorus view, private guide, hammam, fine-dining with view).

Saving tips (apply to any trip length):
  • 💡 Istanbul Museum Pass (€75 adult, 5 days) pays off after 3 sights
  • 💡 Public Bosphorus ferry (€1 single, €5 for a full-day round trip) replaces a €40 tourist cruise and goes further
  • 💡 İstanbulkart transit card for all trams + metros + ferries + buses — kids half price
  • 💡 Street simit (€0.50), balık ekmek (€4), döner (€5) are legitimate kid meals

Best time for a 7-day Istanbul trip

When: April–May, September–October (ideal; 18–25°C). Avoid July–August (hot, crowded) and Ramadan if you want restaurants open at lunch.

Getting there: Istanbul Airport (IST) is 50–75 min by HAVAIST bus or metro to central. Sabiha Gökçen (SAW, Asian side) is cheaper and 60 min to central. Turkish Airlines has outstanding family service.
